Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

Well I got the bushings out and the new ones in but I am not sure where the Washers go. The kit only came with 4 and the directions are not very good. Anyone know??

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

On the side that doesn't contact something. It gives the bolt or nut something to tighten up against, rather than the bushing or sleeve.

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

Hey thanks tjsulli790. Thats they way I installed them but I wanted to make sure. The instructions that came with them dont really tell me anything. I guess since they are for so many different applications they just generalize. Thanks

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

What a coincidence, I just got mine from the "Big Brown Truck" yesterday. Looked in the box, and was a bit cornfused myeslf. It is raining here today, so I have not crawled under it to refresh my memory on the way things hook up. BUT I wonder myself, I have 4 "1/2" style nylon pieces, with two metal sleeves for them, then 4 other thicker bushings, no sleeves. No washers? ( I assume you use the stock ones right?) This appears to be a "Universal" set of bushings...
Which bushings were used on top and which used on the lower side?

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

Here is a picture of my pieces, I have 4 of the "Hat" like ones, and 4 of the ones on the pen. The other 4 pieces, 2 large frame mounts, and two metal sleeves, are pretty much self explanatory. The metal sleeves will ONLY fit into the "hat" style bushings.
How do they go in? (The directions show the kind of sway bar link that my GM vehicles have, where you put the two halves on each side of the flat part of the sway bar. (Sandwiching the sway bar ear)
On ours both ends need the "HAT" style I would have expected...

Those look very different than the ones I have. Did you get kit #4.5186? I will try a take a pic of the ones I have tonight if that helps.

No, it is
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">

Bushings, Front/ Rear Sway Bar, Polyurethane, Black, 1 1/ 8 in./ 28.5mm Diameter, Ford, Pickup/ SUV, Kit

I got there by navigating through this route. (My digital caliper measured our sway bar at 28.5mm)
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">

Start New Search</div></div>

So if I in fact have the wrong kit, what did I do wrong?

Yours does look much more like the correct one, crap, guess I will be sending mine back!

But for those that know for sure, why does this call for it being a 31.5mm diameter bar, when I am SURE mine is 28.5? The links may still work, but if mine IS for sure 28.5mm then I would be screwed on trying to use the sway bar mount bushings...right?

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

I am assuming you have been here not that it helps much.

And I can see why you (and I) are confused. Seems you have the 1 1/8" bar vs. the 1 1/4" bar spec'd for the 4.5186 kit. Where did you order from?

I've heard that ES are good to deal with. Give them a call and they will probably send you the correct parts.

I think someone needs to do a write up on these bushings and installation as so many have this same issue.

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

I ordered directly from Summitt Racing, I will call them tomorrow morning and find out what is going on. And if they offer the proper kit with the 1 1/8" frame bushings.

I ordered the set from Summit Racing, thinking that they'd fit my 1/99 truck, but the end link bushings were too big for the links. They sent the proper end link bushings and sleeves out to me gratis .

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

Just got off the phone with SUMMITT. The rep told me that there were several Different variations for our trucks? (Sway bar diameters depth of the frame mount, ect...) If you have the 1 1/8" or 28.5mm sway bar. With a 2.5" deep frame bushing. The part number kit we need is, 45107. HOWEVER Summitt is out, (Go figure) and ES is closed for now... seems they are hoping and praying their building survives one of the Fires in CA.
So I will send the wrong kit back to Summitt, and look for other sources for the kit, or keep driving it with the rattle until ES is back in business again.

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

Try these guys Jim. They are a dealer for ES. You may even be able to call them.

ESParts

And if you want to get rid of the rattle, remove the bar. You will have to do it anyway and it will confirm the rattle is from the lousy swaybar bushings.

Re: Energy Suspension Sway bar bushing ?????

I know it's the bar. It has been there for a couple months. I tried moving it with my bare hands back then, and couldn't get it to budge. NOW I can move it easily on the passenger side.
