A Fiat Jack in my F-350??

At 10K miles I rotated tires. The stock jack had trouble lifting the front axle in the position where I placed it (I was going to lower the axle on a jack stand). I'm guessing the jack goes into a ratchet mode when the weight limit is exceeded, and that's just what it did. Then after that it wouldn't lift the other side of the truck at all. I couldn't believe that Ford would put such an inadequate apparatus on a Super Duty truck!
I thought, "What if I had a 4,000# cargo load in the bed. That Fiat jack wouldn't even begin to budge the axle under a load of firewood out in the boonies." What's with the Ford engineers?
I resorted to setting a 6 ton bottle jack in its place behind the rear seat.

Re: A Fiat Jack in my F-350??

At 4k miles, I got a flat from a nail in the sidewall. I tried using that worthless thing but I could not get it to even reach the rear axle. I borrowed the neighbors car and bought a real jack that I always keep in the box now.

Sam's Club has a 20-ton bottle jack for $19.

Re: A Fiat Jack in my F-350??

I got an OE jack from the dealer that is a hydraulic telescopic bottle jack, no screw out end like most cheapy bottle jacks, totally telescopic, has a foot or so of travel. I think it comes on some 350's, maybe even 450's but it is major heavy duty, fits pretty much where the old screw jacks did.

The part number is 3C3Z-17080-BB. Cool lookin' jack, painted yellow with the FORD oval emblem cast into the base. I think it cost me like $50 or so, not bad.

Re: A Fiat Jack in my F-350??

I keep a decent-sized hydraulic bottle jack in the toolbox. And any time I tow a trailer, I haul the 3.5 ton floor jack - along with a 2' x 4' piece of 5/8ths plywood for a base in case I need it in a mudhole or sand trap.

I rarely need either jack, but when you need it, you need it now.

Re: A Fiat Jack in my F-350??

It is a matter of principle that no manufactuer will include a usable jack with the vehicle.
"Scew extension" on a jack does not automatically qualify it as cheap.,
