Select Parking Lights and pull out the fog light switch. Your fogs will be on and your headlights will be off. Works every time on both my 2003 and 2005 X.

That DOES NOT work in my 02, although I wish it did.
I think what the original poster is referring to is the Steve Racer mod.
PM me and I can supply you with a link to another site.
Jack is right. 12 years ago when living on the mountain I used a set of Bosch fog lights, they also said that no more than 16" off the ground was ideal. I had them wired seperatley and would many times just have the headlights off all together. Boy am I glad I don't have to drive thru that anymore, but it was beautiful up there.

Most of the lights sold as fog lights do not meet this criteria, even some of the well known brands like Hella.

I agree. I have the Hella 500 "fog Lights" and driving lights. I use them mainly off-road. They are more of a "wide light" than a fog light. They work great for what I need, but I wouldn't expect them to be a top of the line true fog light.

SteveIn29,
I did not mean to offend you by repeating your post, but I thought that it was important to distinguish between day and night driving. It is perfectly legal to use them during daytime driving when there is fog, or in low light situations (dusk/dawn).

Semper Fi.....
[/ QUOTE ]Maybe in GA but in CA the law states...headlights will be on 1 hour before sunset and 1 hour after sunrise. It also says that driving with just parking lights is illegal and doesn't mention that fogs negate that, although I believe when actually driving in fog they might make an exception.
This is what I remember from my driving test so I could be mistaken as it's been a few years.

can anyone direct me to a schematic on how i might wire the fog lights to activate w/o having to run the head lights as well in other words i want to be able to have control of them as a separate system........does that make sense to you guys
by the way its on an 01 Excursion v-10 and the fogs activate when you pull out the light switch

OK, it's been a while since I did this..On my 2001PSD, I removed the light/fog light knob and pulled the panel out..need to be carefully, if I remember you'll need to use a small screw driver to "push" the clip back to facilitate removal..once you have the panel in your hand, disconnect the plug-in wiring..Now, here's where it gets a little fuzzy..If you notice, there is a rotating cam that prevents you from pulling the knob out while in the Fog Light position..You'll need to file that off so that the knob can be pulled out..The actuator is held on by small plastic studs that hold it in place..to secure they looked like they had been melted a little to secure..so, I carefully ground on them a little to be able to remove the actuator..and when I put it back together, I used a soldering iron to re-melt the studs..
If you decide to do this..once you get the light/fog light control panel out it will make more sense to you..
Good luck..hope this helps ya
On edit: If your light control panel was/is like my 2001..you'll have to use the small blade screw driver on the Knob..look in the back of it and you'll see a small opening..there's a clip in there that will need to be released..pushed in, so that you can get the knob off.
My 2001 is also like wingfoot stated. You also have to jump 2 wires together at the switch to get power to the fog light relay when you pull out the switch in any position.
