"Ford" alarm system

I had a Ford 400K system in my '96 F250 and NEVER had a problem. I understand Ford has used a different source for their current alarm. (used to be Code Alarm) Any reviews on the current system?

Main reasons for using this and not aftermarket are I can arm the system with the elect door lock switch in the arm rest and I can arm/disarm with the keypad. Not to mention it will be installed by a "Ford certified" vendor.

Thanks a lot!
Patrick

Re: "Ford" alarm system

The old Code Alarm systems Ford used were just aftermarket alarms installed at the dealer. The new systems are integrated into the truck and as far as I know can't be added after the fact.

It's not really much of an alarm. I would just call it keyless entry.

BTW, a "Ford Certified Vendor" means nothing. The dealer just uses the cheapest local car alarm dealer to install an aftermarket system if the truck didn't come with an alarm.

Re: "Ford" alarm system

I don't remember where I saw it, but some site advertized a "factory' alarm for this truck. It plugged in to the VSM an that was it. Of corse it didn't have shock sensors and a siren unless you added it.

Re: "Ford" alarm system

code still is the manufacturer for ford alarms. i do the alarms at a dealership. its just a basic alarm that does not plug into anything. the shock sensor is built into the brain. this unit is for keyless entry upgrade or keyless entry. i have my opinions about alarms so pick your poison. the thing about getting a ford alarm is if its a new car its warranty is just the same as the car. after that parts is lifetime but you willhave to cough up for labor.

Re: "Ford" alarm system

I had one of these installed today and so far I like it a lot. I can arm it with remote, keypad or door lock switch. I can disarm with remote OR pin # on keypad. (pretty cool, I think... I know, I know, "Simple minds...")

Re: "Ford" alarm system

I installed the Ford alarm with Remote Start. You can use the factory key fob, the alarm key fob, the exterior door keypad, or the interior door lock button. They will all activate the alarm.
