Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

In the pickups? No.

The 2003 Excursion had an optional DVD rear-seat entertainment system. If you're good with electronics, you could probably install it in a CrewCab.

But your best bet is probably to go to a good electronics/sterio store and buy a major brand of 12-volt DVD player/screen - such as Sony - and have them install it.

WOW, $1100? Ouch!

I just set my laptop on the center console and throw in a DVD.
It's got a 15" screen

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

Or buy one or two $80 portable dvd players from Target or Wallymart.
The batteries last about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but you could always use the 110 volt charger/adaptor plugged into an inverter to keep them going. Wish they had things like that 25 years ago when my kids needed 'em. We had to settle for converting kid's lp's to cassette tape and using portable tape players and head phones. I don't know how many thousands of miles I drove to Cookie Monster songs, My Little Pony songs, and Strawberry Shortcake stories (when they were tired of the headphones).

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

That is what I do on long road trips with the kids,

laptop with a power inverter off my powerport to keep my laptop battery from dying half way thru

OHHH, and headphones for each of them...

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

I agree about the cost. Just getting him the info he asked for. I bought a nice portable dvd player at target. I made a custom platform that goes into the rear cupholders on the Excursion console. Works great and very affordable.

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

That KEC is a nice unit but it is a monitor only. You need a DVD player also. Which is stupid because if the kiddies are watching a DVD off the head unit, Mom & Dad can't listen to music. DUH! Or you get a stand alone DVD player for under the seat... that's convenient...

I'm still looking for an "all in one" 10" DVD player with an adapter pre-cut for our (06) F-350. I don't care what it costs, I'm that frustrated in looking.

I believe the 1st one i posted has a spot on the front where you could add a player to it.

Any pics of the custom platform? Thats exactly where I put our DVD player for the kids. To make it fit good we remove the cup holder piece and the DVD sits back at good angle.

Thanks

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

Sorry, no pictures. I just cut 2 pieces of pcv tubing 3" long and glued a flat piece of plastic to the top of them. The plastic tray sits against the back of the consol lid. I also put a small piece of aluminum angle on the 3 sides to keep it from sliding off.

I know that reading through that it doesn't appear to come with a DVD player but I bought that exact setup a few years back and it did come with one......much to my surprise because I had also ordered a DVD....which I returned.

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

Is it a stand alone (for under the seat or in the console) or is it built into the flip down/roof mount?

Very Interested!!

Re: Ford make a dvd player for my truck?

I have been thinking the same thing for my truck. The DVD in the Excursion has been a life (or sanity) saver on long trips. I am thinking of seeing if I can find a wrecked Excursion with the factory DVD system in it. I am pretty sure that I could get it mounted overhead in the truck like it is in the X one way or another.
