I have been off forum for a while. Quite a change.
Anyway got a recall notice. Seems I should park my truck outside so it won't burn down shed when it burns up.
Thing is this is the SAME THING (as far as I understand) as what was in recall back in 1999 "area" (when I had my 1996 done) So it takes till now to fix it? (and they seem to think its a "get it done ASAP")
I just got it too. I've had the truck since '02 and I'm not all that worried yet. I am wondering that since they have to open up the brake system on the truck if they will completely bleed the system including the abs unit. I'd like that. What I don't like is the fact that I haven't had the CPS recall done nor do I want it done. I really don't like the fact that someone else has to drive my truck too.

I agree 100% with BTBBT, I haven't had my CPS done either, three notices so far. Seems like when they start "fixing" what isn't broke, a whole bunch of other things pop up. This speed control thing, is it only a problem if you use the speed control, or can it be a problem at anytime?

My understanding is that at the first attempt for the 'fix', they just slip in a fusable link ahead of the switch. Then, if the 'problem' persists (as in maybe a bad switch), they will replace the switch.
I don't know if I plan on getting mine done or not, since I haven't received the 'official' piece of mail yet.

I had mine done two weeks ago. It is just a fused harness they plug in between switch and factory harness, takes about five minutes to do work 30 mins. from time I got there and the time I left. I had CPS recall done also but told them I didn't want it installed. They just put it in cup holder for me. BUT they say they have to install the harness because its a SAFETY/FIRE issue.

I believe it has nothing to do with using it or not. Its a preasure switch on brake master cylinder that can leak from brake fluid preasure and then short out harness and start a fire. I guess if you dont use your brakes you won't have a problem
No, you can have a problem if the battery is connected. It doesn't matter if you use anything on the truck or not, if the truck has power with the key on OR key off it can start a fire.

My understanding is its just a plug in unit to provide fuse protection. So IF it blows the you have to bring it back for $$$ (or connect directly as it was) Then again if fuse goes maybe there is a problem????
I had it done on my 96 and no issues so far. The 02 will be done today.
I received notice the other day, and had the CPS done 2 weeks ago, still the original with 133K on it, spare International CPS in the glove box too. I know my dealer pretty well, if it is just a harness, then they may just give it to me and let me do my own and they will enter in that it was fixed.

My understanding of this recall is if the fuse blows out in the future they will still replace the sensor as a recall issue at no charge. It's just cost effective this way because 99% of the switchs won't fail anyway .The fuse is just to prevent a possible fire if the switch fails.
I made an appointment for today for my truck. I got there and the guy says "so, do you want me to call you when it's done?" I said, no, just come get me, I'll be sitting in the waiting room watching TV. He says, "You do know that it will take about 2-3 hours right?" What?
So, we went round and round with how long it SHOULD take, and then he complained about all the trucks that they are having to do. I explained that this is why I made an appointment. Bottom line....still up to three hours.
So, anybody know exactly what's involved with this repair? Or I might try a different dealer in another town.

Well my wife took the truck in for me. She says she had less then 15 minutes from drop off till pick up. I was told on phone before hand its to unsnap a electrical connection and snap in this "unit" that is a "fuse".
If you set up a appt for such a simple repair and they tell you 3 hrs they dang well better give you a FREE loaner truck. (and wash the truck/rotate tires) for your time.

The way I got it figured.........the less time they have my truck, the less they can screw up on it. With 3 hours, I'm sure they could screw up a lot of stuff, and find a lot of "stuff that needs immediate attention".
When I told him "that's why you make appointments", he tells me that the appointment is just for the service advisor (him), and then he needs to get the truck into the mechanic when he can.
I felt like Seinfeld at the rental car counter.........."I don't think you do understand how the appointment works. The appointment is supposed to keep the car here. That's the most important part of the appointment....actually holding onto the car for me."
