Front end noise when braking?

I am getting a fairly loud "klunk" noise when i am braking. It usually feels like it is underneath me, or in the left wheel. It happens with the wheels straight ahead, and sometimes I can feel it in the steering wheel. Against better judgement I took it to the dealership, and they were positive it was the ball joints. I know I need to replace them anyway, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas on the noise, as I don't trust these guys. Thanks.

Probably ball joints.
I would still get under the truck and check all the bushings and make sure none of them have split out or are fallling apart. Also make sure you didn't loose any bolts or nuts anywhere.
