my truck gave me some problems today, i got them fixed, but i thought it would be a good idea to learn about diesels incase i have a bigger problem. Im good with gas motors, but i have no clue how a diesel works inside there....so do yall have a recomendation on a book about the 7.3 motors/trucks? I just like to know a little about how stuff works.
thanks!

Years ago I boned up on them by going to my local library...I was impressed with what was there...saved some money, too. I was also amazed at the repair manuals that they had available as well. My 2 cents worth.

I just started coming here! I read all I can and always have every question or problem solved. I've even gotten help with things not-diesel! There are some who just can't seem to be happy or have rotten luck with their PSD, but most everyone lets them vent.

Here's all you need to know about diesels.
Ready?
They're always at WOT.
It's a joke! No throttle. Get it? Ah never mind.
Now seriously though. I think you can learn some basic diesel theory/applications by reading but not much specific to current engines. I have been working on and maintaining diesel engines( real diesel engines that only need two wires. One for fuel cutoff valve and one for the starter. haha) for a long time. These critters that are in our truck now are WAY WAY more complex. I wouldn't even swear that they are actually diesel engines. More like magic contraptions. I believe it would/does take years to understand all but the basic of todays engines. The engines I work on have something 22:1 compression, generate about 700 PSI compression, squirts a little diesel through a spring loaded injector(no wires) and BOOM. It runs.
I open the hood of my truck today and can't hardly even see the engine. Much less figure out what any of that crap is doing!
