I went away on business for a couple of weeks.
The wife was watering our yard and the truck was getting watered everytime as well.
One side has terrible water stains on it.
I tried washing it with dove detergent, clay bar, Meguire's synthetic wax, but those stains are very persistant.
Anything I can try before I go nuts?
I cannot stand to look at it in this condtion!!
I searched this subject, but it was no help...
Well this works on Fiberglass Ski Boats, it's cheap. But do test a small section of your paint first, then clean and wax it - before you do the whole truck.
50% water / 50% vinegar..............spray it on, and wipe it off dry with a clean dry towel, no muscle is required, do not rub it!
Everytime we take the boat out of the water, which is 2 or 3 times a week, we do that, and have for years, so do almost all boat owners. This includes solid shinny black boats too! They look like a mirror you can see through.
HoustonPerson had a great idea. Vinegar is a good cure-all for many things. There is also a product called "Lime Away" which is used for tub and shower enclosures and other places where hard water stains occur. There is also a trick for cleaning very dirty and stained RV's: put 1 cup of ammonia, 1/2 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of baking soda in a gallon of hot water. This is also good for your house, vinyl siding, ect.. Obviously, test a small spot on your truck before you do anything major and reapply wax when you are finished.

Use 50/50 water/ vinegar, spray on or wipe on but do not rub dry. While it is still wet, use car wash and a sponge. Make sure the surface is cool and out of the sun.
If none of the above works, here is what I just did for my aluminum siding after the wife ran the sprinkler on it for 3 days. The outside spicket she used was from the well, and that water is hard. The siding really looked bad, rust streaks all over.
After trying out various other products that didn't do much, we went to the store and bought a bottle of Krud Kutter. Not the original KK, but their Rust formulation. It sez its safe on paint, that's why we tried it on our painted aluminum siding. It sure did the job. Read the specs and test it on a small spot first. Bet it works.
Thanks for all the info.
I tried the vinager and water solution, but it didn't even touch it.
I ended up using Meguires paint cleaning system.
It took a lot of elbow grease but the stains are gone.
If there is a next time, maybe I'll try the Krud Kutter
