I think your

Mechanic is trying to get you to pay for his Black Friday purchases. Take it somewhere else for a second opinion. Voltage in a 6.0 is sort of critical for the health of the FICM.

Your readings are some what my volt reading on the scangauge 2 was showing before I replaced it. Now that the alternator was replaced in the middle of summer the readings are above 13.8 and that is with all the lights on and heater going at full and setting at a stop sign....
I would say that yours is on the final legs and will need to be replaced.
I would shop around for some prices and what it would take for your self to replace the alternator and belt while you are at it, also check the pulleys.

You don't need a diesel mechanic to diagnose an alternator.

I am with Mark. Any mechanic can change an alternator. In fact, most here do it ourselves.

The voltage might be okay but maybe the alternator isn't putting out enough amps. That would account for the low batteries. I agree with Alaskapsdvan that your alternator is about done. They seem to fail often according to posts I've seen.
