I was out bear hunting this morning, and when I came back to camp, my radio was on. Truck hadn't been running since last night, keys were not in it, but the radio was playing. I tried starting it and shutting it down- still on. It even stayed on while cranking. I was thinking that it had to do with the retained accessory power circuit. So I took a look at the interior lights. Dome lights go on and off normally. The radio is the stock CD-6 in-dash changer. the only additions I have made to the stereo is an amp. I tapped the speaker wires by the driver-side rear door. Big cable goes straight to the amp from the battery, trigger wire is from an IGN circuit. I disconnected the power to the amp and all my add-ons to isolate those circuits.
troubleshooting so far:
1. disconnected main power to amp and accessory circuits I have added.
2. pulled retained (delayed?) acessory power relay- radio continued to play.
3. pulled r-a-p fuse, continued to play.
4. pulled radio fuse, killed the tunes. put it back, tunes are back.
5. disconnected the batterys- killed the tunes. hooked it up- tunes are back.
6. I completed the highly scientific, under-dash wire harness adjustment procedure. (wiggled everything in sight) but to no avail.
I left the batts disconnected and went to town. I can turn the radio off manually, but there's still power to the head unit. I know radios don't draw mucch power, but something's wrong, and it will drive me nuts.

Well, the Retained accessory power relay ,,is that the one that lets the radio and windows keep working for a while,,,until you open the door? If so,,that is the only think I could think of....
Trace the radio power wire back,,untill you find where it gains power from? Check infront of the relay above... I guess you said your dome lights go off,,and such? So not the door switch sticking,,,Dont have a burnt wire from your hot amp wire to the radio power on wire do you?

Well, I'm back to civilization, so here's my update. Before I posted last time, I had unhooked the batt's to make sure they didn't drain while the truck sat over the weekend. It sat for a day and a half, and when I hooked the batteries back up, it worked normally again. I gotta think it's something in the radio itself- this thing seems to do what it pleases, when it pleases. Possessed, maybe?
Should there be constant power to the "radio" fuse? I don't know if that circuit should be relay-triggered before or after the fuse. I'm guessing that it should provide constant power to the radio- most head units use a constant (+) and a switched (+).
Something funky in the column, huh? I didn't test the windows, but I'd have to think that they'd be affected, too- right? Well, it's working- for now. If it keeps acting up like this, it's gonna end up being a good excuse for a MP3/XM upgrade.

I had a similar thing happen to me last fall, only I was out duck hunting. The radio would stay on even when i turned off the truck. Turned out that a relay from my car alarm got crushed and it shorted out some part of the trucks computer/brain. The dealer spent 10 hours tearing apart the dash and reseting the computer stuff. I got off lucky and they only charged me $200. I then went to the car alarm place and had them re-hook up the car alarm and cut me a check for the $200 since they didn't properly install the alarm system by placing the relays in a safe location.
I have a similar problem only its my windshield wipers. They won't turn off, even with the ignition off and the key removed. The only way to get them to shut off is with the fuse. My truck is stock with the exception of Firestone airbags.
another little thing I found, fuse #33 is suppose to be front windshield wiper control which it is but it also provides power to the radio head...Hmmmm makes me wonder if there is a relay under the dash that needs replaced. still looking
