HELP w/VSS on 03 X

I have been having some issues with the X lately. It started off with a little jerking at highway speeds, then one day at a traffic light the speedo went wierd, the truck died, the OD off light started flashing, the ABS light came on and it threw a CEL. It would start back up but only if I had it rev'd up. The code reader showed a Output shaft fault. I then searched the archives and realized this seemed to be happening on wet roads, so I took the advise and unplugged the OSS and packed it with dielectric grease. Since then the truck has had two more fits, one time of which, was on dry roads, but has not thrown the CEL. So I search this web site some more and come up with the VSS, which sounds right, except for the truck dieing, that sounds like the AIC, but are the two connected? I have a hunting trip planned in a week and need to get this resolved before I am left stranded in the middle of this great state! Thanks for any light you can shine on this

God bless Sarah Palin

I currently have the same thing on my 1993 Bronco with the 5.8 So I am as well interested in any answer to lead me in the right direction. I have heard the the VSS will get dirty and have trouble reading, also VSS just simply going out.

My truck never died, but I had most of the other symptoms you had when my vss went out. On 2-wd, the part was only $25, and took longer to gather the tools than it did to replace it. I seem to recall that on the 4-wd, there are two sensors, one on the back and one on the front. Something you might want to check in to.
just my .02 cents worth
