Re: hub snap ring!!!!!!!!!

The only tool that works is a GOOD pair of snap-ring pliers. I've tried all kinds of other stuff, although swearing reduces my level of frustration it did nothing for the snap-rings. (The damned things don't care what you call them, they are just plain stubborn.)

I think there should be only one seal for the hub bearing.

Re: hub snap ring!!!!!!!!!

There are 3 seals one for the actual hub small o ring, two go on the axle shaft. I am at the point where I need to get the axle out of the housing and I am beating the bag out of the seal to push it thru. It will not budge for me, any suggestions?

Re: hub snap ring!!!!!!!!!

Have patient's grasshopper! SNAP RING Pliers will take that off, (If you have not already got a pair by now. Then there is a special tool to replace the large black seal on the axle shaft itself. Some make their own, I borrowed one from the FORD dealer to do mine. (Also if you take the shafts down to FORD, they would do it reasonable I am sure..) The yellow seal goes on the hub, and the small "Dust" seal goes on the differential housing around the axle shaft. SO yes the axle needs to come out. Once you have the ring off, you should just be able to pop it out of the diff.
