I DARE YOU

To look under your plastic bed rail covers. I have had a cap on mine for almost 3 years and I saw the rust around the ends this spring. The damage is getting fixed and will use line-x to cover the bed rail. The covers are not going back on. The cap covers the mounting holes.I had wanted the covers removed before the cap went on and was told nobody takes them off. I wish I had now. Pic's in link below. I hope all of yours don't look like mine did.

Re: I DARE YOU

Yeah. I always heard that about plastic bed liners. I almost got into a business with sprayed in bedliners. A friend and I were a loan request away from it, then we both moved away from each other. I have a sprayed in, but the place I bought it from put a plastic over the top of it. I am scared to pull up the plastic to see the entire mess underneath. Good luck with the fix.

Re: I DARE YOU

That is not from the plastic bedliner, it is from the factory plastic caps.... man. What do you do though? There are all those slots, for mounting them, you can't eliminate them really, you going to linex it then reinstall them?

I have the same thing, except the corners near the tailgate have been hit/bent, and now rub on the paint, therefore I have rust spots..

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Reading posts like this makes me appreciate the dry desert heat and constant sun. I'll probably be dead of skin cancer before my truck ever gets rusty.

Re: I DARE YOU

I looked, not one single scratch! No rust, no messed up paint! You may be having problems because of your cap. All that weight of the cap, plus ladders is rubbing off the paint, causing the rust.

Re: I DARE YOU

I agree with you on the cap installed over the plastic covers is most of the problem. The cap loaded with tools and corner bead is heavy. It was installed with 3- 3/8" bolts on each side. Bolted at all corners and in the middle. Even if someone is installing a tool box they should consider cutting the bed rail cover at the box so it is not under it. After seeing the top of the bed rails it is no wonder Ford puts them there. The steel is very thin and would dent easy.
