Ignition Key Bell

My ignition key bell stays on sometimes in my 2002 F250 after I remove the key. If I jiggle it it goes off. Is there a way to adjust this

Give this a try

It is "dry' so it doesn't promote the innards of the lock cylinder to "stick" . A little "puff" and then insert/remove the key quickly a few times to "lube" the works.

Graphite Store:*Graphite Powders and lubricants • Fine powders • *Graphite Tube-o-Lube

You don't have to buy from here. I believe it is still available at most hardware stores.

Any way to disable the bell entirely? I hate that thing. Damn nanny-state we live in. I got keyless entry! What do I care if my keys are in there or not!!!

Looked through my owners manual and found nothing. I'll search around some more...

My old '86 gasser had the annoying "chime". I opend the doors, put in the key and went loking of the source of the scourge. Found it under the glovebox. It may be in a different spot on the newer ones, when I did find it, I unplugged it and put it in the glovebox for the next owner. Gave the truck to Community Hospice this spring and the "chime" was still in the glovebox.

Searched "ignition chime" and found it....

Easy fix on the 03'!! Wish I had done that about 5 years ago!

Slide the cylinder out, take the little metal clip out, re-insert the lock and awaaaay we go!

DICCOU did you try sliding the cylinder out and seeing if there is anything amiss with the lock assembly? there are a few parts in there, so I would at least pull the cylinder and look to see what you got? Just an idea.

Sorry for hijacking your thread!
