Keyless entry with engine running - Diesel Forum

I have a 1999 PSD with keyless entry. I cannot lock/unlock the doors while the engine is running. Is there a modification to lock/unlock the doors with the engine running? So far, I haven't been able to find any solutions.

With mine you can lock with engine running only by using the outside pad to lock the door. Give it a try.

99 don't have a door pad.

Sorry but the key fobs are disabled while the engine is running, but you can purchase the door key pad from Ford, and get it wired to the system, or just carry another key in your pocket.

Only later builds 2001+ ? can you work the keyless with the engine running.
Lots of 1999 owners locked themselves out at the pumps or convience stores.

I have a June 01 build, and I can't use the key fob if the motor is running. Would be nice though.

As stated above this will work on the newer trucks. My 2005 works great!

My 02 locks with the key fob with the engine running ever since I disabled the key chime.

There is no way to disable it in the 2001 and older trucks. In 2002 and newer models, the GEM was replaced with a newer component call the VSM (vehicle security module). The GEM did not allow the remote FOB or keypads to work, but the VSM that replaced the GEM's function was wired/programmed differently. They are not swappable and there is no way to interchange them. Now if you get an Excursion GEM out of a 2001, you can wire a keypad in. It is compatible with the trucks and a direct swap with a few minor modifications.

I pulled out the ignition switch and taped the contacts for the chime.

If you do a search in here you will find out how, don't know if it works on older trucks though.
