Leaking gear box

My steering gear box is leaking on my '99 F250. It looks like the leak is coming from under the plate on the top. This plate has 4 bolts and the adjustment screw/nut in the middle. Is it possible to remove this plate and use some silicone or something to reseal it? or would that end up messing something up? Am I looking at a new gear box instead? I am using synthetic ATF in the power steering system if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Re: Leaking gear box

So does anyone have any experience with removing that top plate? It sure weems like a waste to replace the entire box if I don't have to. The truck is at 72k and the box is still pretty tight. I just don't know what will be inside there. I am afraid of opening the plate and gears and springs falling out.
