Hey I need to replace my door lock actuators, and I remember reading a post about some good generic ones online, but can't find the post in a search. Does anyone know where to look?
Thanks,
Matt

partsexpress.com has a various actuators. They must be adapted to fit onto your door lock arm. There are instructions on how to do this on this site, do a search for door actuators. At partsexpress.com do a quick search for "door locks". Monte

If you use the generic ones you have to splice into the harness and rig up a way of mounting them in the door. I just had to do my two front actuators and I opted to spend the money and buy theactual replacement one from Fordpartsonline for $40.00 each. I really don't understand why they are so much money and why Ford did not recall them. I was asked to write the replacement procedure for the FAQ section but don't know if it ever got posted. I didn't like the idea of cutting into my harness and mickey mousing a mounting place for the cheaper ones. The new Ford ones are much stronger than the stock ones. If you can't find the procedure just PM me and I will send it to you.

It's like 8-10 different sections in the manual to figure out how to change out one of these. I've been going to copy/cut/paste the procedure in to one document but never got around to it.

Thanks for the replies, now that I have taken the door latch assembly apart I can see that the original actuator can be separated out of the system. The new after market one could be hooked up to the same location via the supplied rod. The actuator itself would have to be mounted in a new (custom) location. The old or original actuator is integrated into the door latch but is a separate part. Not knowing what I know now I may have gone with the cheaper after market version, but I have already ordered the original replacements from a Ford supplier online.
I think that you could hook up the new after market actuator and probably leave the old one in place, that way you would not have to remove the latch assembly. You would just hook up the rod somewhere along the existing rod that runs across and up the door. Because of the design of the stock actuator there is little resistance.
Also one last thing, I dissected the actuator that I had already removed and the problem was that the small electric motor inside had failed; everything else inside was in good condition. (Springs and plastic gears)
