Looking to buy an '01 F250 7.3L - What to check?

Hi everybody,

I am selling my 1990 F250 7.3 4x4 and would like to upgrade to a newer truck (preferably one with a turbo.

I am looking at a guy's 2001 Ford F250, 4x4 7.3 L and I was hoping that I could get some advice.

Here is all the info
Extended Cab (not crew)
6 inch suspension lift (not sure what brand)
35 inch tires -- decent shape
300k miles
new injectors
new batteries
new brakes
new alternator
Transmission was done 20k miles ago (not sure what the owner meant by that)

Looks like it has been well maintained overall. No rust. Nice interior and nice paint.

It is $6500.

My concern is that I have never bought a truck with 300k miles before. Is there something I should check? Should I do a compression check -- would that help? Anything else to check?

Are there any things that I should be aware of when checking this truck out or test driving it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

I would look real hard at the front axle. Ball joints, tie rod ends, ect. If the hubs are stock I would replace them. All U-joints are suspect. Check rear axle close for outer seal leaking. If ESOF make sure it works correctly. Pull intake and look at intake wheel make sure it is not all beat up. Smell the tranny fluid and made sure it is not burnt. Look for oil in the radiator. The price is not bad, but any truck with that many miles will require more work down the road.
