More ABS light questions

I'm new to this forum, but this sounds like the place to be if you own a Super Duty. I have seen many posts about problems with the ABS light. I have an 05 – 6.0 diesel, DRW, RWD Super Duty. My wife and I are headed for Colorado and the ABS light came on in west Texas. It went off the following day, but I took the truck to the Ford dealer in Amarillo. They took the codes and said it could be any one of about 4 problems. The usual suspects, frayed wire, sensor, switch,??? then he also mentioned a “broken gear” which the sensor is mounted on in the differential??? This I didn't understand and it was estimated at $259 ?? for the part plus 2 ˝ hrs labor. Very expensive. Has anyone heard of this problem with some type of broken tooth in the gear. I may have this wrong, since I wasn't taking notes. Being 600 miles from home, I'm a bit stuck, but I would like to understand more about this diagnosis. The service guy said Ford had a service memo out on this? Thanks for your time.

Actually, I'm told this $260 ? part is called a ABS – Tone Ring ?? has anyone ever had this replaced to solve the intermittent ABS light problem? To remove the differential and all we're talking 2 ˝ hrs labor.
