I have the mildew odor coming out of the vents when you first turn on the AC. The smell goes away after about 3-4 minutes, but it's pretty nasty at first. Is there an easy fix for this? Please let me know. Thank you.
I'd be willing to bet that the drain is plugged on the evaporator. It's the "pan" in the cab and if you look under the truck on the passenger side in the engine compartment near the firewall you should see a "rubber" hose that the water drains out of. Some have a formed edge that doesn't allow "outside" stuff into the interior. If you live in a dusty area they can seal themselfs shut when the dirt gets wet and turns into mud. If you run your A/C for a while and then park it,do you see the puddle of water? If not then It is a good possibility that that's what it is. Once it's cleared out it should dry out and the smell should go away. I think (dangerous ) that you can buy A/C fresheners from the auto part store

We have this problem with a fleet of company vehicles, because most folks don't know that the AC should be turned off and the vehicle run (with heater/ac fan on) for a few minutes before turning off the engine. This will help keep everything dried out.
chuckster57 might have the fix. Once fixed dry it out after every use.

You bring up a great point. I don't recall seeing water drain off from the AC when it's been running lately. The truck is on dirt / gravel roads 30% of the time... I'll check it out tonight. Thanks.
Why do I have to "clear out" my truck but not in my Civic?
That's the million dollar question. I've never experienced this in any other vehicle but I have the issue with my truck.
I would also recommend spraying Lysol into the air intake on the passenger side under the dash while the truck is running with MAX A/C and the fan on high. I did this once and then started to use the 'dry out' procedure and have not had any issues since.
