Re: need help ford cant seem to find the problem

Seems like a lot of things to go wrong and all be related. Dome light issues can be related to the door latch. Mine did that too. Check the latch assembly in the drivers side door (I guess both, but because you use the drivers side the most, it is more likely to fail). The latch can lose its lubrication and then it doesn't complete the circuit. No circuit, and dome light stays on, and maybe other crap happens because the truck thinks the door is open.

It's a long shot, but what I do when mine acts up is spray some WD40 in there, and then open and close it a few times, then spray some more. Then just wipe the excess off. I'm good for 6 months then. I thought it was my own fault because I wash it a lot and maybe that degrades the lubrication. Or maybe it is just another FMC shortcoming.

Let me know if that helps...RL

IMO it sounds like a loose or intermitant ground. Or a loose connector on the wiring harness.

A.M. is on the right track. You almost certainly have a grounding issue. G.M. vehicles use whats called a "body control module" which is a sub-processor that controls most non-powertrain functions (buzzers, warning lights, security syst. etc.). I'm pretty sure Ford uses a similar system. I'd bet the body control module is either improperly grounded or faulty.

Re: need help ford cant seem to find the problem

Ford calls their version of the body control module a "GEM"...Generic Electronic Module. I just replaced mine in the excursion and the new one appears to be defective (horn honks when I touch the keypad or lock the door). $270 at www.fordparts.com. It is a complicated computer with lots of teeny tiny doodads on it (not zoodads), so you aren't going to "fix it" with a soldering iron.
It's located right between Hell and the Lake of Fire, attached firmly to the back side of the electrical junction box (fuse box) that is directly above the emergency brake release handle. What usually causes failure is a leaky windshield.
Good luck- you're going to need it along with a 5 pound tin of patient endurance...or maybe I'm just thinking about me.

GEM has been gone since the 2002's started rolling off the lines. I thought that there was soneone else on here a while back with basically these same problems, and I believe it was a bad instrument cluster. I also seem to remember seeing a TSB about this.
