OD light/switch doesn't work. Transmission shifts fine, but can't lock out of OD.

Is there any easy way to get to the OD wiring (anyone got any tips??) and would disconnecting the battery's keep the airbag from going off if I did something to its wires by mistake?

I didn't have much time the other day and tried to take off the steering column shroud, but got a little concerned with messing with the wires inside because of the air bag going off. So I quit. Or should I not even be concerned that they may go off messing around in there?

Thanks for the help

That is a common problem with the wire inside the shift lever breaking. The only fix is to replace the shift lever. I did it in my early '99 with no problems. No need to disconnect the battery either.

I did want an answer to this question, but I'm not sure I wanted you to tell me that answer
I guess my next question is "does anyone have a part number for the shifter?"

Thanks for the reply...
