Hey guys, wondering if there are any ill effects from oil over-fill in the 6.0's? Seen, I thought at one time where filling to 15 qt's may add to EGR issues with these engines? Anyway, using the 5 gallon bucket of Rotella, I over filled, now wondering whether to leave it be or take a chance of dumping more then I need to and yes in this case a Fumota valve would be the perfect solution.
Evening Grampy Jim, thanks for the reply. Looking at the stick it's about 3/16ths. of an inch above the max line or, where the thick part and the thin wire of the stick meet.
Not sure if the oil filter location is the same as the 7.3 engines but one idea would be to remove the oil filter and drain it.....holds about 1 1/2 qts. Then reinstall and check oil level.....add if need be.
I don't think you have a problem if you are only 3/16" above the full mark. Mine will do that with 15 quarts (the recommended fill). If you think you overfilled it by a gallon or more, you may want to consider draining off a bit.
Thanks all for your replies. Any other engine I really wouldn't think twice but, all the posts you read on the 6.0, makes me worry about it.
It really couldn't be that much, I drained about 12oz. last night, figure it may be a quart or so, new oil is really difficult to interpret with these dipstsicks. There is at least a gallon left in the bucket.
Teesh, the filter on the 6.0 is a cartridge type located on the top of the engine. When you release the cap the oil drains back to the pan. Makes for less mess and ease of use for sure.
I know how you feel, when it comes to your own truck you want it to be right and so do I. But from experiance I know its just another Diesel and its not that critical. Besides that from what I have read on this site, I don,t believe any of these dip sticks and/or dip stick tubes are even the same length. You have to find your own trucks happy point. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
