Passenger aibag question

Is there a way to turn off the airbag on the passenger side?

Re: Passenger aibag question

You can order a switch from these folks but you also have to file a form with the NHTSA first.

Re: Passenger aibag question

I know on my truck, it doesn't have the actual switch, but just behind the power point on the dash there is a wire hareness for the air bag, but it's plugged into a plastic holder. If it was an option on that model year, you may already have the wires there. You could then get the part from Ford.

Re: Passenger aibag question

Not an option onthe crew cabs cause kiddies belong in back seat. Comes standard on everything else. The wiring harness is there on every model cause it's all the same harness, just not used in CC's.

Re: Passenger aibag question

So you are saying the harness is here so if I added the factory switch it would work?

[/ QUOTE ]LOL - Somebody better tell Airbag Systems that - right on the above-refeerenced page is the quote "NO GOVERNMENT FORMS TO FILL OUT when installing an Airbag On / Off Switch yourself." Also, they list the switch for $199.00! Isn't hat a tad pricey for a key switch? Or is there more magic goodies in the switch housing - I would have thought it just interruped the impulse to the airbag and illuminated the warning light. Any ideas how much the real Ford part might run?

Re: Passenger aibag question

I would hit the salvage yards and find an extended cab truck, get the brain/crash sensor, dash overlay and the switch and simply install them in your CC truck.

I actually added a passenger side airbag on my 99 CC in the same fashion. The brain or crash sensor is mounted on the tranny hump just below the dash. The crash sensor is programmed for the number of airbags and presence of the switch to turn the passenger side off and on.

On edit, you might want to get the parts of a truck that hasn't had the airbags deployed as I do believe the crash sensors are a one time only affair. The switch should be fine thogh.

My guess would be that it would work since the wiring should all be the same. I think you'll lose your power point since the airbag switch would take it's place. Can't say for sure since I've never tried it.

Why do you wan't to get rid of the airbag anyway???

Re: Passenger aibag question

I'll probaly get flamed for this but I would like my son to be able to ride in the front seat. I have three kids and two car seat and a full size booster will not fit in the back.

The switch won't work until you visit your friendly Ford dealer and have them "flip the switch" in the PCM. This is where the form from the feds will come into play (unless they are un-informed, or you have a buddy that works there). Also, you won't lose the power point, its still there on my dad's SC.
