I got to thinking about all this last night. I'd just about bet that part is a capacitor, not any type of resistor.

It would be really awesome if somebody had a truck with good and bad actuators who wanted to rebuild them and also had a volt/ohm meter that measured capacitance. Both of my actuators on my truck are junk, I don’t know if I would be able to get an accurate reading if they are in fact bad.

If you can’t get a steady ohm reading out of that part (keep in mind that your body has a resistance so you can’t touch both sides with your fingers), than it is likely a capacitor. If we have the capacitance of that part we can wire a capacitor into the wiring before the motor.

I am certain it is not an electrolytic capacitor. If Radio Shack sells a capacitor that is close to the right value (and not electrolytic), then we would have a fix for less than $5 bucks. One that wouldn’t burn these motors out, and force us to spend the $60 per actuator.

PDL Rebuild Works Awsome

Just want to thank wittmeba et. al. for the post on the power door lock actuator rebuild. I thought I would loose my mine without the PDL working. Rebuit mine and they work better than new. Took the time to lube everything and all the window drives at the same time.

The resistor is actually and carbon thermal sensitive resistor that is designed to prevent motor overheat if someone lays on the lock switch. The problem is that these units have a shelf life. So even if you get ‘new’ ones, if they are old an old fabrication date, they will fail soon after you put them in.

I wrapped mine in al foil on rebuild. Works great. No $$ to fix. Takes about an hour to pull the unit apart and repair. Worth the time given the cost of new units that will fail in time.

Thanks to all for this post and the detailed info. I have photos of mine if anyone wants them.
