PROCEDURE FOR: Oil Change/ Multi-point Lub Job for our SuperDuty 6.0

I got my oil/filter change this morning at the dealer. It was an open bay so I watched just about everything they did. It looked insanely easy and I walked out feeling like an idiot after I paid the cost.

I'm going to take this task on the next time and wanted to know if any one has the exact steps (hopefully with pictures) documenting the oil change procedure and the multi-point inspection/lub job.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: PROCEDURE FOR: Oil Change/ Multi-point Lub Job for our SuperDuty 6.0

1. Run the truck around for about 20 mins, or until the temp gauge moves into the normal range. This will mix the oil, and help burn off any diesel that may have seeped in. Pull into level bay & set parking brake, and pop hood. (you will not need to ramp the truck or jack it up).

2. Remove oil filler cap.

3. Using 36mm socket (Sears of Harbor Freight) remove oil filter cap on top of motor (this is the lager of the 2 black plastic caps on top of the engine. It is the same size on the HFCM for the primary fuel filter under the driver's seat). The smaller cap is the 2ndry fuel filter.

4. Place a drain pan of your choice (large enough to hold 15q of oil) under the oil pan. The Blitz plastic pan is popular - but remember to open the air release cap BEFORE draining.

5. Remove drain plug & drain oil. If you havn't opened the air cap on the Blitz pan, get out the kitty litter for the mess. Take an oil sample at this time. This is also a good time for a brewski, if you're so inclined. Also a good time to locate the 4 zerk fittings & give them a shot of grease.

6. While the oil is draining, replace the oil filter & o-ring that came out with the filter cap. Make sure you do not damage the o-ring. After draining the oil, replace the drain plug with a Fumoto valve. (Keep the drain plug for nostalgia's sake).

7. replace the oil filter/cap.

8. Refill w/ 13.5 q of your favorite CI4 rated oil. Make sure its diesel rated CI-4.

9. Turn on engine & run for about 5 min. Turn off & wait for about 15. (this is the time for another beer.) Check dipstick & add about 1/2 to 1 q to middle of stick.

LOF done. Time about 40mins. If you don't want to run it to operating temp, there is a good chance you'll see a slightly elevated fuel in oil % in your OA. Most of mine have been .5% or under. Its not unusual to see up to 2% if you do alot of heavy stop/go or ideling. If you're mostly open road, & levels get 2% or more, its time to start looking for whats causing it.
