Question for Techs.??

I purchased the truck in my sig. in jan. 08. I did get an oasis however this only provides information on repairs under the warranty period, so I contacted the dealership where the previous owner had all maintenance performed. I simply asked if they could review the service records and highlight any major repairs which may have been performed. Well they told me that this was a violation of the previous owners privacy and refused my request. Is this common practice? Have we really got this bad?

I would opine that you were told something that would get you off the phone.... Before you get all huffy, let's consider a few things....

You want someone at the dealer to stop what they are doing and look for service records.... This is something that you and the seller should have come to terms on... If the service records mattered, they would have mattered BEFORE you signed the cheque and it would be up to the seller to provide them...

As it stands, you are miffed because the dealer didn't do free ****...

Just to add a little perspective.... When I was self employed, I was often called to task by "walk ins" looking for a few feet of electrical wire. Never saw these guys before and, since they were from out of town, it wasn't hard to tell I'd never see them again.... Yet they would bust my chops for asking for money in exchange for a few feet of electrical wire.... Electrical wire - something I bought by the roll so I could give it away by the foot...

If I allowed it, I could spend an entire day on the phone without once justifying my existance.... The service department is inundated with those looking for free stuff... Please take this in the context in which it is given.... We need cash flow to survive... if I am to do stuff for free, it will be for those that generate our cash flow...

Grampy, Thanks for the perspective. I have been self employed for 30 years as you said if I had been paid for all the hours I have spent giving free estimates and free advice I would be sitting pretty on a beach somewhere in early retirement. You are a credit to your employer!
Maybe I should offer to pay them for there time? I bought the truck, which BTW has 175000 on the clock now and has been great, from a dealer who was going to wholesale it due to the high mileage, I researched the previous owner who's phone # I could not locate which indicates to me that they would rather not be bothered. I respect that.
My post was to point out that as a society we have become unaprocable and therefore less responsible as individuals. I guess my words don't communicate my thoughts well. All is good, thanks for the reply.
