Rear Leaf Spring Codes

My 250 springs feel a little soft and would like to upgrade to heavier ones. Does anyone know what the rear spring codes are for the different trucks (250, 350)?

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

For 2002,
A = 6,084 pounds @ground = F-250
B = 6,840 pounds @ground = F-350 SRW and some F-250s
C = 8,250 pounds @ground = F-350 DRW

D and E are for chassis cabs and won't fit a pickup.

A, B, and C are all the same width and length. The difference is in the thickness of each leaf. You can put code C rear springs on your SRW if you prefer the ride of an empty dumptruck.

Replacement is a 2012 F-150 EcoBoost SuperCrew Lariat that tows my 5,000-pound TT like a dream.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

Thanks a lot Smokey! Now I just need to look at my truck and see which springs it has. More than likely it sounds like the A codes are on there.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

Smokey, I have an 03 F250 CC and looked at the door sticker and it said SPR UP? The sticker is on the front drivers side door jam. Could this be correct or am I looking at the wrong sticker?

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

So for the record I looked at my door sticker and it says SPR VA...I am assumming that this means v springs in the front and A springs in the rear, so I need to find some B springs for the rear.

Code U front leaf springs have been around for years. Ford added rear spring code P during the 2003 model year. All I know about it is in the following info from the workshop manual:

The "P" code springs on your F-250 are rated at 6830#. These are the same exact rear springs used on the on the F-350 SRW and were also standard for '03 and '04 F-250's. I have "P" codes on the rear of my '04 F-250.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

Thanks for the info it all makes sense now why the rear was not squatting as much when hauling a load.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

Okay, so one more question. I found a pair of rear leaf springs at a local junk yard. They are B-codes off of a 2004 F-350 SRW. Are these the same springs that are listed above (6840 lbs.)? Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

Mark

Code B and code P rear leaf spring packs are both rated at 6,840 pounds @ground, and are the same length and width, so they will interchange on '99-'04 SuperDuty pickups.

I don't know the difference between code B and code P rear leaf spring packs, but there must be something or Ford wouldn't assign a different code. Would they?

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

It doesn't seem like it. Maybe they have a different arch to them or something.

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

If the springs are rated at 6800 pounds what is the hauling capacity in the bed?

Re: Rear Leaf Spring Codes

One more question: I ended up getting a pair of spirngs off of a 2004 F-350; the door on the truck was coded Y for rear springs. What are the weight limits on these? Thanks for all of your help!

Mark

I doubt it. For 2004, there was a "Y" front spring code, but not a "Y" rear spring code. Here are all the rear spring codes for 2004 model year per the 2004 Workshop Manual:

Rear Springs F-Series
B 3C34-5560-L
C 3C34-5A975-D
D 3C34-5A975-G
E 3C34-5A975-K
J 3C34-5A975-J
M 3C34-5A975-E
N 3C34-5A975-F
P 3C34-5A975-C
S 3C34-5A975-C

I also checked the 2005 workshop manual to see if perhaps the Y rear spring code was a late addition for the 2004 model year. But there was no "Y" rear spring code for the 2005s either.
