Removing Rear View Mirror

Does anyone know how i can remove my rear view mirror mount. I am putting in an overhead pod and i need to move my mirror mount down about 2 inches. I tried using a heat gun on the windshield but that was a big mistake and crack the windshield. OOOPS. Does anyone have any ideas or know where i can take it to get this metal tab moved?
Any info will be appreciated. This is for my 99 f250 PSD.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

Your local glass shop can move it for you. They do it everytime they change a windshield.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

Glass places around here said they wont guarantee no breakage... all i had to do was remove the mirror and apply heat to the remaining piece on the glass and easily pry it off. Parts stores have the glue to reinstall.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

Did you play around with the pivots on the mirror? At first I thought I was going to need to move mine, then I noticed that the mirror can simply be pushed down and rotated. Here's a picture that show how mine ended up.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

I have used a soldering iron to heat it slightly and then twist it off with some pliers. I haven't broke one yet but there is a first time for everything.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

I just got one from a wrecker last week and I grabbed it and pulled it off the windshield with little effort.

[/ QUOTE ] Most of the time if you do this you will pull a chuck of glass out or crack the windshield.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

I twist them off all the time with a 15" cresant wrench. Only break about 1 in 20. Try to keep the wrench against the glass while you twist. Heat guns and torches will usualy cause cracks but try removing after truck has sat in the sun awile. If they hav'nt installed the glass yet have them get one for an excursion it's the same but the mirror bracket is about 2" lower.

Re: Removing Rear View Mirror

Thanks guys for all the help. I got super lucky and the windshield they put on had a 2 inch lower mirror mount so my pod cleared the mirror. I guess on the 99 the mounts are higher because i had my mirror pushed all the way down and it cleared the pod but it was the metal mount that wouldnt allow the pod to slide by. Well its fixed finally and $200 dollars later hopefully i can get this cluster of wires straightened out so i can mount this pod. Thanks againg for the help.
