Reverse warning system

Hi Guys!

It has been some time since I've posted. Glad to be back!

I have a question about my reverse warning system on the F-350 in my singnature.

About a month ago, I was pulling my trailer (16 ft. utility trailer) behind the truck and I backed it into the garage. I pushed the "off" button on the dashboard and the reverse warning system stopped beeping, and the "off" light came on.

Then about two days later, I was backing into a parking space at work and the system didn't work. I tried pushing the "off" button but the light goes off just for a fraction of a second, then comes back on.

I read the owner's manual and it states that the truck must be in reverse and the ignition key "on" before the system will change modes. It was in reverse and the key was on both times I operated it.

Now, the "off" light is still on and the system won't work. What is wrong with it, and how can I fix it?

Thanks for your replys in advance. Craig.

When that happens it means there is a fault in the system. I could be anything, but most likely a bad sensor. The dealer would be able to put it on their computer and run a check.

Thanks for your reply.

I went to the dealership and purchased one of those sensors in the rear bumper. I unplugged the one on the far right of the truck and replaced it with the new sensor. (I just started on that side!) Sure enough the thing started to work. I had read on here somewhere that usually it is a sensor. I have also read that the tone generator could be bad; I guess I just got lucky.

I probably should have taken it to the dealer. Really the only thing I saved was the $35.00 diagnosis fee.

Those sensors are a bit pricey. That one I replaced cost me $75.00. I'm just glad it is fixed. Thanks for your reply. Craig.
