Single Rear wheel with duelly axles...?

Hi Guys
I'm into a new project , I just picked up a SRW 2000 4x4 , the truck is pretty beat and figured I would make a project out of it . My question is how much wider is a duelly rear than a SRW , I may have a line on a wrecked duelly . I know on the old chevys I have a plow truck that I put a duelly rear but used singles and it was allmost perfect.
Thanks Guys

Re: Single Rear wheel with duelly axles...?

Duallies (Not DRW chassis cab) are wider by 6 or so inches than a SRW axle. If you can find a chassis cab dually axle it is the same width as a SRW axle.
The duallies with pickup beds have a wider axle so the inner wheels will be wide enough spaced to clear the std pickup bed's wheel housings.

Re: Single Rear wheel with duelly axles...?

The axle isn't really much wider. I converted mine about 3 years ago and ran the first year with the dually Dana 80 with SRW wheels and a stock SRW bed. You couldn't really tell unless it was pointed out to you. The wheels fit fine. I figured it added about 1.5 inches to each side and the wheels still fit under the fenders. A Dana 80 is a big axle by the way.
On edit, you will need different U-bolts and one of the brake lines is different but can be rebent to fit fine. Also you will need to shorten the driveshaft a little.

Re: Single Rear wheel with duelly axles...?

If you do a search on the part numbers you find the 250's and 350 duallys all have the same rear springs too. After they started putting dana 60's in the front ends of the F-250, there ceased to be any appreciable difference in the trucks aside from the markings. I am miffed that they are now running much bigger wheels an yet another bolt pattern on the hubs. I would like to find a set of F-450 hubs, wheels and a Dana 60 axle with 3.73's someday to finish it out. I know the frames are a little different too but I don't think I will ever bust a frame but I have blown tires and think outside of the considerable cost and Ford's sort of oddball bolt pattern choices of late that it is the way to go. The standard medium duty truck pattern would be just fine by me. My ultimate truck to haul my camper would be a 7 speed F-550 with 3.55 gears front and rear. They don't make them that way.
