slow fuel gauge

My rig sat in my shop for a couple weeks w/quarter tank. When I filled the gauge didn't move. It started moving after about 20mi and finally topped out after 100. Curious if anyone else has seen this.

Re: slow fuel gauge

Based on previous posts, this sounds like a common problem.

Re: slow fuel gauge

Was the truck running when you filled it up? I haven't done that with this truck, but did it a couple of times with my 2000. It would take the guage a few miles to move up to full if the truck was running as I filled it. Just a thought....

Re: slow fuel gauge

I left my truck sitting in the driveway for a couple of weeks last summer and it did the same thing. It has not been a problem since though. Although it hasn,t sat that long without driving since.

Re: slow fuel gauge

I found from day one on my 2003 that if you fill up with the key on or in the acc position the fuel gauge will work improperly and not go up like it should. I had this checked out at the dealership twice and they found nothing and concluded it was a glitch in the system. Now I have 56000 on it and the fuel gauge still acts funny so I always reset my trip meter and trust it instead of the gauge.

Re: slow fuel gauge

Mine is slow to if I leave it running or the key on. Now my overhead is acting screwie. When I filled it up it read around 600-620 miles to empty now all I can get is around 545. Anyone had this problem?

Re: slow fuel gauge

I have an AUX tank in the bed all plumbed in, and wired to the gauge. It does some crazy things sometimes on both tanks. I have narrowed it down to fueling with the key on. I find if I turn the key off when fueling it acts like it was designed too (most of the time).

Re: slow fuel gauge

I had the same problem with a slow fuel gage, until I had the instrument panel replaced do to the needle on the RPM gage sticking and the programming reloaded a second time, after the new panel was installed. The radio and dome light would not cut off on their own until the reprogramming.

Re: slow fuel gauge

Wow, wonder what the deal with this gauge is. I almost always leave the motor running when filling and never saw this before. I guess about half the time I fill from my aux tank. I'll start experimenting and see what happens. Thanks for all the responses.
