Spare Tire Winch

Had a flat tire this morning (big bolt in tread) so I had to let down the spare down, well the cable on the winch (lift)is all scewed up, Fraying.

So the question is what is a good replacement? is there an aftermarket? or should I purchase it from Ford?

Re: Spare Tire Winch

Ford Sells it for 60-70 bucks if memory serves me correct. I had this problem, only when I bought it, they didn't me the winch lock key, they couldn't find a new one so they gave me a whole new winch.

While it's not for the faint of heart, after discovering how this thing is put together and operates HERE I think the thing is repairable/rebuildable and plan to do that the next time I have a problem. That link also has a couple of suggestions to prevent problems when using this winch.

Re: Spare Tire Winch

Both the Ford dealers around her wanted over $112, called fordPartsOnline and ordered it and to the house it was $69.

What really sucks.. is that I did not even get to use it ONCE. Rolled it down and it would cable was bad and would not roll up.

Re: Spare Tire Winch

That sucks man. Mine was the second time i used it. But the newer one is like twenty times better than the other one ever was. But I dont remember it being that much. They must have gone up a little. Hope it works out good for you.
