Stereo wiring guru's please look.

thanks for looking

i've decided that i'm gonna upgrade the speakers in my truck. i've had the speakers for a while and i'm hoping someone can help me and give me some pointers and a list of stuff i'll need.

here's what i have:
infinity kappa 5.25" components
infinity kappa 6.5" components
2 infinity 10" subs
kenwood 923 amp (subs)
harmon kardon amp (components)

i had this installed in a car back in the day. at the time it was top-of-the-line.

i'm kinda dumb when it comes to stereo wiring. will i be able to use this with OEM headunit till i've got the funds to replace it too.

do i need to run all new speaker wires? can anybody draw me a little diagram for this? i don't know what order eveything is hooked up.

any and all advice is welcome

thomas

Re: Stereo wiring guru's please look.

The 5.25" speaker will fit directly in place of the stock front speakers. I'm not entirely sure about the size rear speakers, since I dont' have a crew cab and Crutchfield's Website was of little help. My guess is also 5.25", but it's easy enough to pull the doors off and look.

Provided they fit, you will be able to run these aftermarket speakers with the stock head unit and wires. The stock head unit puts out ~8 rms watts/channel and your aftermarket speakers should be capable of 22 rms watts.

I would not suggest amping the factory stereo to run these. You'd have to use speaker-level inputs, and that general means noise. That also rules out the subs (for now), but it'll take you plenty of time/money to figure out where to mount these in the cab anyways.

Once you get a new head unit (with 3 pre-amp outputs), you run 3 RCA cables from the head unit to the respective amps (2 sets to the comp amp and 1 set to the sub amp). Then run the speaker wire from each amp.

Hope this helps,
-Rob
