Stuck in 4 wheel drive low gear!!! Help! I gotta get home!!!

Went to pick up my boat from my parents place (40 miles from my house). Used 4 wheel drive low to pull it out of the lake because it is a very steep incline. Now I can't get out of 4 wheel or low gear! I checked every fuse I could see that made sense to check. No luck. I'd really like to get home tonight. Anyone have any suggestions???

Re: Stuck in 4 wheel drive low gear!!! Help! I gotta get home!!!

Put the truck in neutral, turn the switch to 2wd and apply pressure to the brake pedal hard and steady until you hear it disengage. If it doesn't disengage you could have wound up the transfer case and may have to go in reverse for a ways and then try the same thing. If your vaccum was bad, you wouldn't be able to change to low range anyway, so it's probably just the above steps that should get you back in 2wd.

Just a question here,,

[/ QUOTE ] It would go into lo range ,,it just wouldnt have the front axles engaged,,right? The Transfer case is electricly activated. That is how some put the off switch on their vacume. So they can HAVE lo range 2wd....a mod I have read of on here....
Glad ya got it fixed....

Re: Stuck in 4 wheel drive low gear!!! Help! I gotta get home!!!

Don't feel bad, my son had the same trouble in his new Expedition and drove 32 miles in 4 wheel low along side of the road. When he got home and told me what had happened, I went out and in 2 shakes of a lambs tail, had him back in 2 wheel drive. He was very embarrased, but now he knows.

Re: Stuck in 4 wheel drive low gear!!! Help! I gotta get home!!!

My 99 had a quirk.. it used to switch from low back to high fine but suddenly it would just stick in low. I found that if I turned the truck off, then with the key back on and switch it to hi it would shift back into high no problem.

Jim- I was at Pismo Dunes once and had it up to at least 50 in Low Range if I recall... That's getting up there in overdrive.
