Superduty Paint job life

I have a 01 superduty that made 7 years old in September. It is toreador red and silver on the bottom. The paint on the roof is starting to fade and peel on the seam cover. The truck has been outside all it's life but keep clean and waxed 3 times a year. It's been a good truck except for the ride. Between this and 4 other ford's I owned including a 02 explorer I a not satisfied with the way the paint held up. It makes me mad enough to try another brand.

And they'll do the same thing, maybe worse.

Not sure what he answer is, but to have it repainted.

Re: Superduty Paint job life

Red will always be the first color to fade. Call any paint shop and they will tell you the same thing. The only red I have ever seen last has been Dodge. I don't know what they do different but it holds it's color a lot longer. Ford has been known to have paint problems. I know the Astro vans and escorts had major paint failures.
Good luck but I think you might been in for a new paint job unless you can prove it was a paint failure.

I have a 1999 dark green. The clear coat on one of the rear fenders is coming off.

Re: Superduty Paint job life

My red 99 still looks good aside from the few scratches and dings it has gotten over the years. There is some rusting at the inside bottom of the doors where the outer door skin folds upward. I actually found a TSB on that issue. No fading or peeling!
PO told me that he had waxed it at least twice a year.

Re: Superduty Paint job life

I think the base coat clearcoat is easy to repair, but doesn't hold up. I also had a 95 Chevy pickup that was silver and had bad acid rain spots in the clear.
