Re: Totaled-continued

No luck at Oriellys, Autozone, or TSC. Gonna try to hit up my coworker that has the good kit tomorrow. Hate to get the right fitting in just to have the gauge to fail.

I'm sure it'll be there somewhere.

Here's the adapter that I have: Made in USA

Star Products TU-15-22a

I got it and the gauge for under $50 shipped. You have to hunt around for the best price. There's a WIDE range of prices on the net.

I JUST looked at one exactly like that on Amazon for $47, it has 1 five star review. I wasn't sure how well it would tighten up. I already ordered another fitting just like the one I broke but real metal this time for $7. Just want to have one for the future. Also looking for a better quality gauge...didn't really see one on Amazon that specified a 1/8 quick connect size.

Re: Totaled-continued

Yeah, people dont understand Chineese things and these trucks just don't mix. Thats why my truck is falling apart right now.

The previous owner replaced alot of stuff with knock-off replacements. Im still finding things not original!

If you do find one bent, you might as well pull the engine out and replace the bearing inserts on the crank and rods. At least one head will have to come off, and the pan, of course, and getting it sealed properly requires the engine be upside down while the RTV cures.

I was afraid the engine would have to come out. Hopefully I can get a hold of that compression tool today. I told the insurance company is let them know something tomorrow.

Re: Totaled-continued

Got the other fitting but I don't have the clearance to get the gauge on. So I've ordered the OTC 6076 long glow plug adaptor off Amazon with next day shipping for $69. List price over seen is $99. Should be here tuesday evening.

Before I started getting ready for the compression test, I turned the engine over 4 times with gp's out to ensure all the water was out. I got a small squirt out of the driver side. I got up and saw fresh water running down from where the steering wheel shaft comes through the firewall. Best I can tell its one of the last 2, maybe 3rd, cylinder (3,5,7?).

Well, on the bright side of it, if water squirted out of the cylinder, the piston doesn't have a gaping hole in it.

You are still working on possibilities until you get a compression test. It would be good to get that water out of the cylinders though.

I did just squirt some WD40 in the cylinder for now.

Where would a hole be at? I figured could still have a opening on the inside of the piston, which is higher than the outside. I do take it as a good sign that its coming high enough to squirt the water out. Rust is also one of my concerns.

Yes, oxides of any nature are abrasive, which won't help cylinder walls.

Re: Totaled-continued

OK, got the adaptor in and plugged in to #5 gp hole. Which terminals do I use a jumper wire on to engage the solenoid?

Just jumper 12V to the small terminal on the starter relay. Pull off the push-in connector that comes from the harness.

Re: Totaled-continued

So far 1,3 and 5 have been 300-320. I'm using one of the old batteries to turn the engine and it is turning steadily but not fast. Would that cause low compressing #s?
