Upper Mileage Display, Temperature Display

Hey, I have a 99 4x4 CC PSD Lariat, the upper console display with the Temp, Mileage has burnt out on the Left side, does anyone know where I could get a replacement, either used or new, Ford wants an arm and a leg for it.
Thanks!!

Joe

Look at this before you decide to replace the unit.

Re: Upper Mileage Display, Temperature Display

Another idea.....

I turned the sorry thing off the day I bought the truck and it hasn't been on since. IMHO, those displays are just a marketing thingy for the Lariats that some V-P at Ford thought up...and a way to bump the price and their profits cause we don't have a choice...you gotta' take the readout with the Lariat. You certainly can't trust the mileage calculations, which makes me doubt the other data readouts. I bought a stick-on compass at Wal-Mart for $2. I have a combo Anemometer / Thermometer / Hygrometer I carry in case I need to know the wind speed or if it's cold enough to freeze my old butt.

I'm just stuck in mechanical-land...wish I had my old '97 PSD back.

Well Ed, I beg to differ, mine in usually within 2 to 5 tenths of what a good old fashioned calculator tells me for miles to gallon, and the temp thingy is just a nicety. However, being anal-retentive as alot of us are, if I have something, I like it to work.... so, by the way if yours is unhooked, wanna sell it for 50 bucks?!!!!
That would be GREAT!!

Thanks
Joe

I am glad the article was of some help. I have not had to do mine yet but I am sure I will have to sometime. The real credit needs to go to FordForgotten for sharing a good and easy fix.
Thanks FordForgotten.

Re: Upper Mileage Display, Temperature Display

Anytime. I do what I can to help.

For what its worth, while my mile per gallon is not very accurate, my miles to empty is pretty close (as in, when it says zero miles left, it aint kidding!), and my temp and compass readings are nails on.

Re: Upper Mileage Display, Temperature Display

But doesn't that "stick on compass" look great on the dashboard!!!!
I agree with the others, mine has always been right on, and it looks better than those $3.00 stick on things, just my .02

I have a 2003 that doesn't have the overhead console in it. Can it be added? Are they pre-wired for it and all I need is the console?

I believe you can but it requires some wiring of your own but I'm not 100% on that but if you keep looking through the threads on overhead display I did see someone answer this question on one of the threads
