My early '99 F250 has the factory aluminum 8 hole rims. I had one of the cheap rubber pull-through style valve stems split the other day causing the obvious flat tire. Even though the tire shop puts new ones in every new set of tires, this one failed after about 3 years. Every 3/4 ton truck I have owned in the past had brass stems that are held in place with a nut on the outside but I have never seen these used on a single wheel superduty. Has anyone tried to use these? Will they work with our factory Alcoa rims? Changing a tire because of a stinking valve stem in 100 degree weather ain't no fun and I would just as soon avoid it in the future.

I've always had rubber stems. I had 2 go bad on me within 3 months once. I attributed it to wheel cleaner drying out the rubber, not to mention they were both on the side that sits in the sun most often when parked in the driveway.

There are two class of rubber valve stems, under 80's psi and over, you need the over model. Rubber on the outside but steel shaft on inside. specify them when you get your tires done.

So that is why some are all rubber and some are rubber base with brass stem. I still would really prefer all metal stems. I do appreciate that tidbit of info.
