Valvoline vs Rotella

my papaw has always run rotella in all his ford diesel trucks on the farm and i have used it in both my trucks. An early 99 F250 and the truck in my sig. I was at advance auto this weekend and needed an oil change so i was looking at the diesel oil and saw some valvoline premium blue 15w-40 oil that said it was recommended by cummins. i thought what the heck so i bought 4 gallons of it and changed it saturday. i was just wondering if any of you guys have tried it yet.

This is according to valvoline's website:
The first approved Cummins CES20071 and CES20076 lubricant
Meets or exceeds current OEM standards for all diesel-powered light trucks
Meets or exceeds the following engine manufacturer's specifications:
Cummins CES 20078, MACK E0-N Premium Plus, CES 20076, Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel (4-stroke), International, VDS-2 and Volvo VDS-3. Also meets ACEA E5-99 and Global DHD-1

Re: Valvoline vs Rotella

I've never heard anything bad about Valvoline as a company. They are a well-known brand.

I've never put anything but Shell Rotella into any of my 3 PSD's and I've never had a problem. I would guess I go along with your Dad and the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory.

Of course, my idea of a movie star is John Wayne, not Heath Ledger, so I may be behind the times a bit.

Re: Valvoline vs Rotella

I've been using the Premium Blue 15w40 oil since new. I do an oil analysis every two or three changes and they have all had good results.

Re: Valvoline vs Rotella

been using premium blue since the first oil change...

then switched over to premium blue synthetic after 12,000 for extended drain intervals, used with Fleetguard stratopore (PN LF3907) spin on filters.

I think you meant Fleetguard LF3974....Fleetguard doesn't even show a LF3907 in it's catalog.
