Warm weather owner moving to the midwest, a couple Q's...
Hi Folks;
First, my truck: 2000 PSD Excursion, lifted 6", about a paragraph's worth of mods.
In about a month we're moving from Florida to the Bloomington, IN area. The good news: We searched for a home with a garage tall enough for the X and we actually found one! After 5 years of baking in the Tampa sun, she'll finally be parked inside.
I do have some questions for folks that may be in or around the Bloomington area:
- Do they salt the roads? Should I get a MY 2000 truck undercoated?
- If the truck is in the garage overnight, at what temperature should I plug the truck in before driving?
- Where do you guys shop for Diesel performance parts, filters, etc. in the area? Any IH dealers in town? A local source for Fleetguard, Donaldson, etc. would be cool.
- For those items that have to come from the dealer, is there a local Ford dealer with a good rep? I spent about 6 months getting to know the parts guys at my dealer in Tampa before they started offering me wholesale prices; I gotta find a new source!
Oh, and the last thing: Is there a Powerstroke club in Indy? I think I've seen rallies, etc. advertised in the area.
Thanks!

[/ QUOTE ] I have NEVER plugged my truck in ,,,during the winter...sits out alot of the time. I DID plug it in one time when I had bad glow plugs...but after replacing them,,nope. Dont need it...starts like a champ...(EVEN BETTER After new batteries last month) As far as the dealers..sorry no help here..I know I started getting the discount on parts when I wore my GM Assembly plant uniform shirt into the dealer to get something,,,
And as far as clubs,,there is FOKISD Club there ...lets see if I can remember the accronym,,, Ford OHIO KENTUCKY INDIANA SUPER DUTY club.... They put on a huge shindig there last Aug during the International Powerfest...
celebrating the 10 yr anniversary of the Power Stroke.
I am in St.Louis..and belong/helped organize SLAPS..StLouis Area Powerstrokes. We are small compared to FOKISD Maybe.. we only have about 67 members.

Howdy,
I moved from TEXAS up to Indiana 3 years ago. As far as my PSD goes, I hate living here. Yes, they do salt the roads. Yes, I would highly recomend undercoating your rig. If I had known then, what I know now, I would have gotten mine done before it left the blessed heavenly place I came from. Salt is really starting to do a number on my rig. As far as a good stealership, I don't really know about the area your gonna be in, I'm a couple hours away. You need to go to the FTE site and find Chris_ce. He's kinda heading up the Indiana Chapter of PSD people. I am a plug it in freak. I plug my truck in if it gets below 40, which is about 4-5 months of the year up here it seems. I finally started using a timer to come on about 3.5-4 hours before I am getting in it to go to work. I don't get to plug it in when I am at work, which means there are many times I have to start it cold while in the 20's. It starts without a problem, so if your plugs are good, you'll be fine in that respect. Since your getting to keep it in the garage at night, that's a big plus too.
Welcome to the hoosier state. Enjoy the cold. I personally am sick of it, and am ready to get back south!

Ziebart your rig!
I did mine new (99) and she looks almost new to this day. I did the total package (interior/exterior) and the good news is, they will detail the truck, redo the scotchguarding, and redo the paint protectant for slightly more than they charge for a detailing. I think it is about $150. The paint protectant also makes washing it a breeze. Mine is a regular cab and cost a hair over $500 originally. If they do a used rig, I think the warranty is not as good or non-existant. Also, they are a franchise, so things may differ shop-toshop.
My brothers 98 Dodge has cancer on his doors already because it was never done.
I'm from North Central IL. I am assuming you mean Bloomington, IN. If everything's running good, you should never have to plug in the truck. When mine was new, I started it at -15* without plugging in, although it WOULD help.
