Ford sent out a notice to the original owners that the spec had been increased from 150 to 165 ft lbs. My truck came with the 150 ft lbs in the manual but was upgraded with a notice to put in the manual that the new spec was 165.

Interesting. I have received no such notice from Ford for my truck. Given that yours is a 2002 and mine is a 2005, I wonder what Sam's proper torque spec should be as his is a 2004. Maybe his best bet would be to call a Ford dealer and ask about his particular truck.

I just had my front wheels off last Saturday. I looked up the torque specs in my owners manual and it said 150-165. I never received any notice that it had to be 165, nor is there any sticker saying anything different....... [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif[/img]

Check with the wheel manufacturer.... Just a very few months ago I had one with tapered seat lug nuts and an instruction sheet from the wheel manufacturer stating 80 ftlb. Not my cup of tea but, with a photocopy of the instruction sheet stapled to the hard copy, the wheels got 80 ft/lb. The ball, if needed, is in the wheel manufacturers court...
At the same time, I recall another 250 with aftermarket wheels and tapered seat nuts that kept coming loose..... the nuts weren't deep enough to fully seat in the wheels and bottomed on the ends of the studs at just the wrong spot.
