#8 Injector

My injectors went out on my 1997 7.3 psd (California truck) and ive been reading that the #8 injector is a special injector. Can anyone help clarify what makes that injector different and where the best place to get the injectors? Thanks!

The injector you are referring to is a long lead injector. It was meant to help with the cackle issue found in the 99 and up power stroke engines that had the dead end fuel rail. This was a standard injector that was within tolerances but delayed the fuel shot just enough to help prevent cackle. It was a band-aid fix!! best thing to do is eliminate the dead head fuel system. Several ways to do it. First check the fuel flow in the heads, if you have a return line than don't worry about getting a LL injector. You could spend days reading about cackle if interested also.

Your 97's injectors will all be the same and should be that way. You don't need it. We have a regulated return fuel system on the OBS trucks (not dead-headed like the SD's). I can't make a good recommendation for where to get injectors as I haven't really kept up with reputable sources (hopefully someone will chime in on that). Cheers!

As stated above, this was for late model trucks with AD codes (99+). Your truck should have 8 AB code injectors in it.

We can get you setup with a set of reman or new injectors if you are interested...
