94 F250 PSD Turbo - Topside Oil Leak and wont start - HELP
Hi guys, Im new to this forum, and I hope you guys are able to help. I have a 94 F250 PowerStroke 7.3L Turbo, on an uphill today, the truck suddenly lost power and shut down. Then all of the sudden all of this smoke started comming in throgh the vents and around the engine.
After getting out of the truck, I noticed a bunch of oil under the truck, and a streak of oil when I was coasting while the truck was power less - I opened the hood, and saw a bunch of oil around the turbo area atop of the engine. I waited a few minutes and tried to start the truck, It would crank over but not start....then the towtruck was called.
any suggestions on what it may be?
Thanks in advance for all your help!
Your engine probably shut down because you lost too much oil.
As far as where the leak is, unfortunately these things have many leak potentials. Agree with Jim, the amount of oil lost and the smoke you describe convinces me you had a hpo line burst.
Clean you engine up, refill the crankcase with oil. Crank over until it starts, the hpop has to prime again so it may take a couple of cycles, and watch the two hpo flexable ss hoses that feed the heads. You should see a fine mist/spray.
Could be a cracked turbo center section (happened to me) or the ebpv actuator rod seal as well, but my cards are on the hpo hoses. If it is a hose, consider yourself lucky. Some have lost their truck to fires from this type of leak (pressurized hot oil spray/mist on a hot turbo..not good)

Thanks for the advise, Is ther a safety mechanisim built in that wont allow the truck to start if it is too low in oil and that is why it wouldnt start over when I was stuck on the road? I'll get started on checking the HPO lines and keep my fingers crossed...
Briefly, the injectors are actuated by engine oil supplied by a high pressure oil pump (hpop). The low pressure oil pump (lpop), or lube oil pump, feeds the hpop reservior as well as the mains, turbo, etc. If you lose a certain amount of oil the lpop will fail to supply the hpor, thus starving the hpop, resulting with no injector fire.
