95 F-250 7.3 Mileage

Hey,

Would anybody know the proper mileage for a 95 F-250, Powerstroke, extended cab, 4x4,
Iam currently getting 13 US mpg (avg city and hwy, no load) and this seems a little steep, average outside air temp is around -15 C.

Thanks,

Ron

P.S. If this is too much, could it be just an injector???

Re: 95 F-250 7.3 Mileage

Any number of things will affect your fuel mileage from modifications to driving habits. The biggest modification most folks need to make is to their right foot. RPMs over 2000 or so generate lower fuel economy as do quicker starts.

For some 13 would be good, for me I would be tearing my hair out - in fact I am a bit upset over a hair above 17 on a 700 mile run last week.

Re: 95 F-250 7.3 Mileage

Believer, you and I appear to have fairly similar trucks. On a trip to Atlanta this past weekend, I averaged 16 mpg. What are you doing to be getting better than 17 mpg?

Drive like the old man I am. Generally maintain 65 or less, although this trip I ran 70 or so most of the way. I also use 1/4 throttle or less when driving and shift at 1600-1800 rpm. If I keep the interstate speed at 55 mph my summer fuel mileage for half interstate and half surface stretts hits just over 20 mpg.

I am old but not mature, by the way.

Re: 95 F-250 7.3 Mileage

I get 15+ in town and on freeway to and from work. I drive 26 miles/day and 6 of them are city. Now about all freeway, I bought this truck to run with the big dogs so at 79 mph I get 17.4 mpg. summer fuel. Now if I get the trailer to rolling and it gets to rolling at 75, then we see 9 to 12 mpg. If I just would learn not to go fast, forget it. Speed limit is 75 so lets get there.
