96 E4od

Can anyone tell me exactly which components tell the E4OD when to shift on a 96 F250? I know about the Speed Sensor in the rear axle and the Accelerator Pedal Sensor on the accelerator pedal...both have been replaced. However, there is something else that is causing this transmission to shift erratically.

I had to change the plugin to the differential sensor as well as the sensor itself.

I can tell you for a fact that the ICP sensor will make the tranny shift all kinds of retarded. i had a bad ICP last week and it threw the engine light on and I thought the shifting was gonna break my neck.

What exactly is the IPC sensor? It doesn't show up as having any input into the transmission according to The Transmission Electronic Control System posted by DaveBey. Where is the IPC sensor located? Thanks.

It is called the ICP sensor (Injection Control Pressure). It is located on the driver side head under the engine cover at the front of the motor. If you open the lid on the cover and look inside, look to the right of the fuel bowl/regulator and it is right there sticking up. whether or not it shows it in the manual doesn't mean a thing. Guys have had weird shifting issues when the third brake light bulb has burnt out. I can;t even begin to explain the correlation between the cause of some of the issues but I have learned the answers to them. I can tell you for a fact cause it happened to me that the ICP sensor will cause shifting issues. Also check your third brake light. I know how stupid it sounds but believe me it happens.

On a simple note, the brake light switch can make it shift weird too. When mine went, the trans always thought the brakes were on so TC would only lock at half-throttle or more and unlock under half throttle... Even in freeway driving. Was super annoying. I think I paid 20 bucks for the switch.
