Ok. My truck has been sitting up now for about a month. I have been reading up from all of your post but i still feel lost on these motors..
I burnt my starter up the 1st day i had the truck. I have found starters on the web for $99, found a guy to rebuild for $160 or I can get a napa lifetime guarantee for $240 and autozones version for $185. What would be my best intrest for the truck?
I'm also lost/feeling stupid on the Abbreviations.. here is just a few. there are so many more!
IPR = Injection pressure regulator it is located behind the HPOP resevoir
FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator , it is located on the filterbowl assemble on the drivers side . CPS = camshaft position sensor , which Ford calls the CMP sensor it is located on the front of the engine below and to the right of the Harmonic Damper, you will see a connector with 2 wires attached to it .

I would definetly recommend buying a lifetime starter, well worth them $ in the long run. It has been my experience doing up used vehicles, if you want to have less trouble in the long term, you gonna have to fork over quite a bit of money up front.
Little story why I am like that now. I rebuilt the engine in my 67 Ford F250. Needed a new starter so I bought a rebuilt one for $65. The rebuilt one was broke before I put it in, I don't think they ever tested it before selling it. When I took it back they wanted to do some tests and so on. I was so mad and frustrated I used that hunk o junk as a core on a lifetime one that was $135 at Shucks. That was about 10 years ago and I still use it. Of course yours will be more since it is for a diesel. Napa is usually more but usually have a better product often times made in the U.S.
BTW, you may be overwhelmed now but soon enough you will be quite familure with your truck and happy. My first diesel was a 97 PSD, I still miss it sometimes.
