anybody ever change a solenoid pack to fix a slipping tranny

my tranny just started slipping at the rate of about 2 shutters at 20mph and also at 40mph it did not throw any codes , somebody suggested replacing the solenoid pack/block may or may not solve the problem . i see they are only 90$ on ebay and there are alot of them for sale so they must fix something? would i be wasting my money or is it worth a try? supposedly i just take the pan off and then it is right there and remove some bolts take old one out then install new one along w/ pan and new tranny fluid. just trying to save some money due to the economic downturn and the ole lady and daughter both needing tires for their rides. i have gotten 217k out of this tranny but it has also been taken care of.

217 is a good life for a E40D. IMHO

A friend owns a trans shop, and when he rebuilds them all the solenoid packs he installs are "updated". Updating them might help your situation, but it may be that the friction materials are worn out.
