My 97 died and won't start. It was a cold start and it ran briefly but died after I drove it 10 feet. Now I'm getting a p1280 code and would like to do an injector buzz test. It has fuel and is full of oil in engine and hpop. When it cranks the tach reads 200-300 rpm. I've tried 3 different new CPS including a blue Ford one. Also has a new IPR (motorcraft) and CNC FAB hpop. I'm hoping to borrow an Auto Enginuity setup to help troubleshoot before I go replacing more parts.
Truck has 253k miles and is pretty stock. AB injectors were rebuilt two years ago by Rosewood.
P1280 is a ICP sensor driven code. Have you checked your ICP sensor for oil in the wiring plug connection ? Use a Ford OEM unit for replacement is generally the recommendation. You can/should be able to start and run with it disconnected, the computer just sees a default setting.
Thanks for the reply. The original ICP was changed less than two years/18000 mi ago and replaced with the new style Motorcraft ICP. There is currently no oil in the connector but I have another new Motorcraft ICP coming. Should have it tomorrow. I tried starting with the ICP unplugged and there was no change. I have a fuel pressure gauge now so I can check that and I'm working on an HPOP gauge to see what the pressure is while cranking. Yesterday I did the continuity test at the IDM plug and did not find any open circuits. Any other thoughts?
Same problem with my truck 2-1/2 years ago, I had to replace the Powertrain Control Module.
Then it fired right up and has been fine since. That was 13,000 miles ago.
Rich, I did not have any oil in the wiring plug connection and the truck would not start with the ICP unplugged. I have a Ford OEM coming in the mail today.
My 97PS died while driving at 30mph and after a lot of speculation they replaced the IDM and it fired up. That was at 245,000 and it is still running well with 492,000 on it.
Well, my no start was caused by a bad ICP. I had changed it less than two years ago but I must have bought an aftermarket brand. Installed a new Motorcraft one and after about 20 seconds of cranking it built enough HPOP pressure to start.
ACH57 I took it to a small ford dealer and I don't know what brand it was. The only thing I remember is that they overcharged me by a bunch and I never went back.
